Vincent Kompany ruled out for three more weeks

When Manchester City need him most, the captain can’t seem to get healthy as a report from Sky Sports claims Vincent Kompany will be sidelined for three more weeks.

Its been seven matches on the trot since the Belgian center-back last played for the Citizens, the 3-1 victory over Everton at the Etihad Stadium in October.

Kompany’s been held down by an evolving injury to his thigh. The problem began as an tear in the abductor, a problem that brings pain to the side and back portion of the thigh. It was a problem that was expected to sideline Kompany for three weeks but the prognosis changed when he started developing issues on the front of the muscle.

Currently at five weeks and counting, the Belgian FA has become increasingly concerned with the situation and recently sent team physio Lieven Messchalck to assess the defender.

“I think Vincent is going to be ready in several weeks,” Messchalck said. “We will do everything we can to bring back Vincent in a good way for a long time.

“First of all he had a rupture, a tear into the abductor and then also he has bad luck with a small thing on the front side now, so it’s everything together.

“It’s not really so long, eight weeks is nothing in the time of injury, you must respect biology.”

Messchalck projects the Belgium skipper will be ready to return to action for City’s match against Tottenham on November 24th.

With Kompany out of the lineup City have won both of their Champions League matches against CSKA Moscow but have lost two of four in the league (0-2 at Newcastle and 0-1 at Sunderland), while also falling to Newcastle 0-2 in the Capital One Cup.

It’s troubling form for a squad so many predicted to be title contenders in the league. And while the goalkeeping controversy has been a big talking point, Manuel Pellegrini’s inability to find a dependable center-back pairing to deputize in Kompany’s absence is right up there as cause for concern.

With Kompany out and Matija Nastasic also ruled out until the Spurs match with a knock, City will use a combination of Martin Demichelis, Joleon Lescott and Javi Garcia to lead the back four.
