Over the last few days, media outlets have been full of the news that Edin Dzeko is about to make a move away from Manchester City. A couple of days ago, the Bosnian was on his way to Borussia Dortmund, all set to replace Robert Lewandowski. The next day Dzeko was winging his way to Italy to sign for Inter Milan, in hopes of bolstering their rather fragile attack, and possibly pushing aside Rodrigo Palacio as the lone forward. Now, the papers are hot with the news that Arsenal are ready to pick up Dzeko in January.

From a footballing perspective, it makes sense that Dzeko would want away from City, particularly considering it’s a World Cup year. Since his arrival in Manchester in 2011, Dzeko’s never been first choice for a full season. He’s had his opportunities, sure, but the forward has made the most impression as a super sub. This season he’s made seven league appearances, three of those as a starter. Dzeko’s last Premier League start was in City’s 3-2 loss to Aston Villa, in which he scored the second goal. He also started the Capital One Cup match against Newcastle, scoring and assisting in his side’s two goals, and came on to add another in City’s 7-0 route over Norwich. Dzeko is certainly a valuable player, and it’s easy to see why he might not feel valued by his club.

Although why, if Dzeko is tired of warming the bench, he would move to Arsenal and sit behind Olivier Giroud, has not been explained. It’s also not clear how the Gunners are going to afford to pay the wages of any former City player. Or why Manchester City would want to sell to a direct rival in the middle of the season. But it’s an international week, and that gives plenty of time for coming up with implausible rumors about upcoming transfers.

I think he’d probably be smart to leave, but that City will only sell if Jovetic is healthy and able to play significant minutes.
