With all 32 teams rubber stamping their spots at the 2104 World Cup in Brazil, we know which players will be gracing the huge party down in South America this summer.

But let’s spare a thought for the poor souls who didn’t quite make it to the warm climates of Rio, Sao Paolo, Recife et al.

There are some huge names who won’t be going to the World Cup, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the obvious omission, and now is a good time to reflect on other players that haven’t made it to Brazil 2014. Plenty of soccer superstars will be sitting on a beach somewhere this summer, instead of strutting their stuff on the biggest stage in world soccer.

Let’s take a look at just some of the player who won’t be in Brazil. Any others we missed?

Forwards: Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robert Lewandowski, Gareth Bale, Roque Santa Cruz, Marcelo Martins, Claudio Pizzaro, Robbie Keane, Stevan Jovetic, Mohamed Salah, Papiss Demba Cisse, Demba Ba

Midfielders: Christian Eriksen, David Alaba, Marek Hamsik, Andriy Yarmolenko, Juan Vargas, Arda Turan, Nuri Sahin, Moussa Sow, Aaron Ramsey

Defenders: Branislav Ivanovic, Daniel Agger, Lukasz Piszczek, Ramon Torres, Carlos Zambrano, Matija Nastasic

Goalkeepers: Petr Cech

Bryan Ruiz should be there along with the rest of his teammates from Costa Rica.

Yo, that list is of players not going to Brazil because ther national team didn’t make the World Cup. Costa Rica is going. You can add Blas Perez, Gabriel Torres, & Jaime Penedo of Panama if you like.

Thanks for the heads up, not sure how Ruiz snuck in there. Maybe some Panamanian hackers around?

Anyway, Perez, Torres and Penedo are all worthy of inclusion. Anybody else I’m missing? Pretty much scoured the globe with those picks, lots of top European talent missing out.

Then again, pretty much every “big” nation in Europe made it to 2014… I predict at least 3/4 ‘Groups of Death’ being drawn out.

        Toughest World Cup ever? Discuss…

yo, mikeevergreen, ruiz was initially on the list, so nice try at playing the role of snarky d-bag, but fail.

pierre emerick-aubameyang, jakub blaszczykowski, vidic, aleksander kolarov, matija nastasic, aaron ramsey, and about 50 others come to mind

      • Joe Prince-Wright - Nov 21, 2013 at 3:21 PM

        Added Ramsey and Nastasic in.

Honestly, there are a ton of players who should be gracing the World Cup but sadly never will due to their nationality.

Is Gareth Bale going to be another Ryan Giggs? I hope not… but Bale and Ramsey are Wales’ only hope.

May need to write another post on that….

You misunderstand/I misspoke. I meant that Bryan Ruiz will be in Brazil along with the rest of his Costa Rican teammates.

I will miss Panama and Venezuela not having made the worldcup as Cinderella football countries.
