Thierry Henry back training at Arsenal… cue talk of an MLS offseason loan

Every offseason this happens, yet every time the same rumors will still surface and whip people into a frenzy.

Get ready: Thierry Henry is training at Arsenal.

No, no, he almost certainly won’t be joining the club on loan as the Gunners look to cement their spot at the top of the Premier League table this season. But plenty of people will make that assumption as the French striker was photographed at Arsenal’s London Colney training complex on Friday.

But this is normal for Henry to do, the last few seasons he has trained with the Gunners and even had that short loan spell in 2012 when he scored a few late game-winners and his hero status at Arsenal rose further with some delightful cameo displays. However at the ripe age of 36, his days of electrifying substitute performances in the PL may be over with, and that’s for the best. Some would give their right arm to see Henry in an Arsenal shirt one more time and helping them on their quest to win a first league title since 2003-04 when he led the way.

When you walk around the outside of the Emirates Stadium in North London, their is a huge iron statue of Henry majestically sliding on his knees at the front of the 60,000 capacity stadium. The man Arsenal fans refer to as the “King” is adored and loved after breaking the clubs all-time goalscoring record and leading them through one of their most successful periods in history.

You have to think to yourself, why would Henry risk being seen in a lesser light by those adoring fans and ruin the image they had of him from 1999 until 2007 when he left for FC Barcelona? He’s not that daft. Henry’s also a realist and knows that he could get away with a brief cameo in 2012 after his second MLS season and Champions League success with Barca was fresh in his mind. But making a loan move now is a different question.

His time with the Red Bulls has shown his creative side flourish but the pace, aggression and direct play he was known for in his prime at Arsenal has diminished somewhat in recent years.

Henry should train with Arsenal, reacquaint himself with old friends and prepare himself for the upcoming season with New York in Major League Soccer. Nothing more. He most likely knows that, but I just wanted to remind all of you out there that suggest Henry linking up a loan move with the Gunners would be a good move. It really wouldn’t be, that ship set sail a while ago.

Henry knows that, Arsenal’s fan deep down probably know that, so it’s time to move on. Unless…

Nah, it won’t happen… will it?
