David Moyes today confirmed one of his marquee signings of the summer could miss out on significant time should they elect a certain recovery route.

Marouane Fellaini has been carrying a wrist injury for a few months now, deciding to put surgery off until after the World Cup.

However, thanks to a new knock to his back, Moyes could elect for Fellaini to undergo wrist surgery now should he need extended back treatment as well.

“Fellaini has got an injury to his back which we hope might have healed up but I’m going to send him for another scan,” Moyes said ahead of Manchester United’s weekend match with West Ham.

“If it hasn’t healed up I might need to take a decision and get his wrist done as well. We hope his back would be only 10 days or so but he is still feeling it. It’s a muscle that has separated from the bone in his back and that is what is causing the problem.”

The Belgian midfielder has missed United’s last two Premier League matches with his back injury, and three overall including their Champions League affair with Shakhtar Donetsk.

Many have speculated that Fellaini’s wrist has been a contributing factor to his inability to consistently crack into the Manchester United starting eleven. David Moyes has experimented with a number of different midfield combinations, rotating Fellaini with Tom Cleverley, Anderson, and Ryan Giggs since Michael Carrick‘s achillies injury.

Moyes speculated that Fellaini would miss six weeks if they elected to undergo the procedure.
