Just a few days ago, Cardiff City chairman Vincent Tan issued Malky Mackay an ultimatum: quit or be fired.
Now, Tan says that’s not longer the case.
With Mackay refusing to back down from his position as manager of Cardiff, Tan has told the BBC that at the moment, that ultimatum has been rescinded.
“For the time being, yes,” Tan said when asked if the warning had been pulled back. “The crisis for the time being is over.”
It would appear that public pressure from club supporters backing Mackay and criticizing Tan has caused the owner to capitulate, not following through on his threat.
The two will now meet to discuss the future of the club and the manager, something which seemed unthinkable just a day or two ago.
“My definition of diplomacy is to create space for dialogue,” said Mackay following Cardiff’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool this weekend.
With the Bluebirds sitting in 15th place, Tan has taken a lot of flak for his complete rejection of Mackay’s tactics and decisions as manager. Tan also has taken heat for his desire to completely rebrand the club under the color red despite Cardiff’s long history under blue.
