Bolton issues update on Stu Holden injury

Mar 4, 2014, 1:07 PM EDT

That’s the word from England after the latest in a series of heart-wrenching moments for electric US midfielder Stuart Holden, as he hurt his knee with Bolton’s U-21 team during his first match back in Wanderers colors.

He’s headed back to the U.S. to meet with the same surgeon who operated on his knee after he was injured in the Gold Cup. If that sounds like bad news to you, it’s striking us the same way.

It’s hard-to-read stuff for Holden supporters, who recently got the good news that Bolton was going to stand by their man and offer a new deal to the oft-injured 28-year-old. Alas, our hero is standing tall in the face of more adversity, putting this on Twitter:

If there is an all-knowing, all-powerful, loving God, why does He keep crapping on Stu Holden?

God has a longer view and different priority set than you. Perhaps His plan, for Stu, doesn’t involve playing soccer. Might just be pushing him in another direction, or allowing him to be an inspiration for others. Often, the destination is obscured by the journey, but how you handle the travel is every bit as important. Good luck in yours and may you be half the inspiration that Stu is to others.

I wonder what the Flying Spaghetti Monster has in store for him. He does work in mysterious ways.
