West Brom on Anelka’s Twitter Qwitting: You can’t quit. You’re fired.

He said he was quitting the Baggies earlier today, but Nicolas Anelka may need a lesson in how contracts work, as he’s been fired by West Brom for “gross misconduct.”

West Bromwich Albion had not heard from the “unprofessional” and out-of-favor striker aside when he posted earlier resignation statements today on Anelka’s Twitter (Or should we say Qwitter? I’ll see myself out, thanks). Now he’s been given his “two weeks notice.”

Anelka took to social media Friday to announce that he had terminated his contract to preserve his integrity. Some would argue he lost most of that during his long and awkward reactions to getting banned for a perceived anti-Semitic goal celebration against West Ham in December, but I digress.

Anelka Tweeted (translated from French):

“In order to preserve my integrity, I’ve terminated my contract with West Brom with immediate effect.”

“Following discussions between the club and myself, certain conditions have been set for me to rejoin the group, which I can’t accept.”

West Brom initially responded:

“The club regards the release of such a statement on social media as highly unprofessional and will make a further statement when appropriate.”

The club later released a statement saying they were giving Anelka his “14 days notice of termination as required by law.”

Gotta say: I understand it’s the Premier League and he’s a world-famous striker, but it’s pretty classless to not speak to your bosses first. It’s a larger scale version of a lazy teenager not showing up to work at the local burger joint and texting his friends to say he quit.

The Frenchman’s not exactly bathing himself in glory, but not sure what we should’ve expected from a man who thought an “inverted Nazi salute” was totally cool and then pretended he didn’t know it was offensive.

Is that considered his 2 Tweet Notice?

Reblogged this on Carolina Mountain Blue and commented:
For what it’s worth, West Brom should’ve said to Mr. Quenelle, “Don’t let the door his your unprofessional — on the way out!” …and on a related note: good luck trying to get another pro contract with that kind of attitude, Anelka.
