As fans gathered to voice their displeasure at AC Milan’s shockingly poor season, chief executive Adriano Galliani reflected.

With the Rossoneri sitting in the bottom half, he agreed with the protestors by calling this season “disappointing” but also pleaded with the fans to not overreact.

He said the protests “hurt” and reminded fans that with the most consistent European record in Serie A’s recent history, missing out on Europe for a year “wouldn’t be the end of the world.”

AC Milan currently sit in 11th position, 10 points out of a European position, 12 points back of local rivals Inter in fourth position, and 20 points shy of Napoli in the last Champions League slot.  They fell 4-2 yesterday to Parma at the San Siro for their fourth consecutive defeat.

Speaking on the protests, Galliani said, “It hurts, especially as people ought to remember the journey of this squad.” Pleading with fans to back the team, he continued, “I am disappointed and it’s certainly not pleasing to see the fans against the team and part of the club, but I continue smiling.”

Prominent supporter group Curva Sud issued a scathing statement on Friday calling out Galliani along with striker Mario Balotelli, who has at times been a cut above the rest and others has been mentally absent altogether.

In addition, a section of the supporters group refused to attend this weekend despite owning season tickets, leaving a section of the stand empty for the Parma match.

It would seem they didn’t miss much.

Following the match, Milan manager Clarence Seedorf met with a small pocket of fans and spoke to the media, saying “These are delicate situations with people who have this club in their heart, both on and off the field.”
