The midfielder rumor that won’t go away meets another engine room target for Major League Soccer, as Frank Lampard and Estaban Cambiasso are both in the rumor mill today.
England’s The Daily Mail has a report that the Los Angeles Galaxy are willing to offer Frank Lampard nearly $6.7 million a year to run their midfield, as the 35-year-old Englishman is out of contract with Chelsea this summer.
The report adds that Chelsea’s offer to Lampard is a one-year deal and a transition into a coaching role.
Meanwhile, 33-year-old Inter Milan mid Cambiasso is said to be expecting a transition to Major League Soccer as well. This comes from River Plate president Rodolfo D’Onofrio (say it out loud… just rolls off the tongue), who was explaining why the Argentine club won’t land the Argentine star.
“I would really love to bring him back here, but I can say with certainty that, when Cambiasso leaves Inter, he will continue his career in the United States.”
With certainty! Get some, MLS clubs looking for a holding mid. Cambiasso recently made his 300th Serie A appearance for Inter, where he’s played in 414 matches overall. He’s scored 51 times since arriving fro Real Madrid in 2004. He finished his international duty in 2011 after earning 52 caps for Argentina.
Indulge the rumors: Could Lampard, then 36, join MLS for the stretch run after the World Cup? Wouldn’t Lamps, Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane be a treat? As for Cambiasso, where could you see him playing?
