“Squeaky bums” and “knocks to the privates”: Tim Sherwood’s Spurs not giving up on Champions League spot

Hand it to Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood in at least one way: he has his own way with words.
After Spurs came back from a 2-0 deficit to beat Southampton 3-2 at White Hart Lane this weekend, Sherwood admitted that his charges have responded to blow after blow to, well, uh, their Lil’ Spurs.
“They haven’t turned it in, have they? You have to admit that against Arsenal we deserved to win the game or at least a point. Then we go away against all odds, against Benfica, and we’re gutted that we haven’t progressed. We should have done but we didn’t. So we’ve took a couple of knocks in the privates and we’ve come back.”
Spurs gave up goals to Jay Rodriguez and Adam Lallana inside of the first half-hour on Sunday, seemingly putting an ugly bow on a 15-day span that saw them post a 0W-1D-3L record against Chelsea, Benfica and Arsenal.
But Christian Eriksen responded with a goal on each side of halftime before Gylfi Sigurdsson found the stoppage-time winner. And now Sherwood and company have turned their sights to finding a Top Four spot.
Spurs are six points behind No. 4 Arsenal and have played one more match. Surely some would recommend keeping tabs on the threat behind them, as No. 6 Everton is just two points back with two matches-in-hand.
“We will try and do as best we can,” Sherwood said afterwards. “I think we are a point behind where we were last year, when we pushed Arsenal really close so who knows what could happen. It is squeaky bum time, time for the men to stand up and get as many points as we can.”
Spurs finish this way:
March 30 — at Liverpool
April 7 — vs. Sunderland
April 12 — at West Bromwich Albion
April 19 — vs. Fulham
April 26 — at Stoke City
May 3 — at West Ham United
May 11 — vs. Aston Villa
