The nearly-900 Norwich City fans traveled across the United Kingdom to see their club take on Swansea City and give them a fine performance. The Canaries couldn’t give them that part — losing 3-0 — but they are giving the fans their ticket money back.
The Norwich players made the gesture on April Fools Day, but it was no joke. Captain Russell Martin led the charge to collect the money from Canaries players, and it will be given back to the fans via credit card reimbursement or check.
Tickets were about $34 and concessions fees were about $17. The article didn’t say whether all fans got concessions — it might be mandatory? We’ll plead ignorance — but Norwich would’ve ponied up between $30,000 and $45,000 for the apology.
“Our fans have been brilliant home and away this season and the numbers we get on the road are really impressive when you consider how far they have to travel up and down the country from Norfolk.
“All the lads really felt for the fans at the end of Saturday’s game, with most of them facing something like a six-hour drive home. Hopefully this will help them with the cost of travelling to our next away game at Fulham.
“These next few games are obviously vital and the support and the atmosphere at our recent win over Sunderland at Carrow Road made a massive difference. So hopefully they’ll get right behind us again this Saturday when we play West Brom, at Fulham and in all of our remaining games, to help us finish as high up the table as possible.”
Not a bad gesture.
