Fans of the Foxes will be popping Champagne corks on Saturday, as Leicester City were promoted to the Premier League for the 2014-15 season.

After beating Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night, Leicester knew that if both Queens Park Rangers lost and Derby County failed to win on Saturday, then their return to the top-flight was official. QPR lost 2-1 at Bournemouth, and Derby were defeated 1-0 by Middlesbrough, meaning Leicester’s 10-year absence from the Premier League is over.

Nigel Pearson’s men have been at the top of the standings since December 26, 2013, and have gone on a long unbeaten run which has seen them tear apart teams in England’s second-flight. They are nine points clear of second-placed Burnley and 19 points clear of third-placed QPR with six games to go, as the Foxes are the first team in the English professional game to get promotion this season.

The last time the Foxes graced the top-flight was in 2004, and since then they have struggled in both the Championship and England’s third-tier, League One.

However now that they are guaranteed one of the two automatic promotion spots, they will now have their sights locked on winning the Championship title and bringing some silverware to the Midlands.

Congratulations from everyone at ProSoccerTalk, see you in the Premier League next season!
