Liverpool’s Ayre to spend this summer: “It will cost what it costs”

Liverpool’s headed back to Europe, and it won’t rest on its inclusion.

Reds managing director Ian Ayre has said cost will not be a major issue for Brendan Rodgers this summer as he prepares his club for the UEFA Champions League.

The Merseyside club did not have a fantastic January window, failing to land a big target and earning negative comments from at least one owner of transfer target. Fortunately for Liverpool, this “mistake” hasn’t haunted the first-place Reds: They’re in splendid form.

And their depth will get better in the summer, as the Champions League will attract players the Premier League alone could not. From The Express:

“It has always been tougher in the transfer market when you are not competing at the highest level,” said Ayre. “We had the issue with Luis Suarez last summer because he wanted to play in the best games against the best players.

“That is always a factor. We have always been fortunate to be able to bring great players here despite that, but there is no question it opens up a few doors for us and makes it a little bit easier.

“Even when you step through that door, there are still a lot of others trying to get the same players.”

Ayre also said transfer business will “cost what it costs,” putting no public limit on what Liverpool will do to fortify its ranks in a quest to win its sixth European title and first since 2005.
