With a 1-1 draw at Heracles Almelo, Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam have secured the Eredivisie title by going four points up on Feyenoord with one match remaining.
Lasse Schone was the man to put Ajax ahead in the 12th minute, and although it ended in a draw, the goal was enough to give them a lead that cannot be broken.
It’s the first time in club history that they’ve won four straight titles, meaning they’ve won the title every year under Frank de Boer. They hadn’t won since 2004 before his arrival in 2010.
Despite falling shockingly in the final of the Dutch Cup to PEC Zwolle 5-1, Ajax’s last league loss came all the way back in November when they fell 1-0 to Vitesse.
Because of his wild success at Ajax, de Boer has been linked with other jobs such as the opening at Tottenham Hotspur, and you could even see his name crop up for the likes of Manchester United.
The title is the club’s 33rd overall. A delighted de Boer put it plainly after the match, saying, “Over the entire season, we are simply the best.”
Elsewhere in the Eredivisie, Americans Aron Johannsson and Juan Agudelo both lost, with AZ Alkmaar falling 2-1 to ADO Den Haag and FC Utrecht losing to Hereenveen 4-1.
