Report: Sacha Kljestan wants to leave Anderlecht for L.A. Galaxy

Sacha Kljestan hasn’t been playing as much these days for Belgian power Anderlecht, certainly compared to previous days as a fixture in the club’s plans.

And he’s a new dad, with model wife Jamie Lee Darley, who may be getting ready to return Major League Soccer according to a Belgian report spotted by

It says Kljestan, 28, has a preferred destination in the Galaxy, but L.A. already has three Designated Players in Robbie Keane, Landon Donovan and Omar Gonzalez.

Perhaps Kljestan would not be a DP at age 28 and with his “off” season in Belgium, and nearby Chivas USA also has three DPs (Mauro Rosales, Oswaldo Minda and Erick Torres). Completing the Cali clubs would be San Jose, who only has Chris Wondolowski as a DP.

Kljestan scored 16 goals in 127 appearances for Chivas USA before leaving for Anderlecht in 2010. He’s won multiple titles with the Belgian club, scoring 21 times in 156 matches.

Kljestan has been capped 47 times by the United States, but just thrice in 2013.

Kljestan would command way too much coin for San Jose, they’re a small club in a small market. Now, if we’re looking at the west coast the only thing that could possibly work is the Portland Timbers. The Timbers could afford the likely minimum of $1 million and they have two open designated player spots open. On the east coast, the New York Red Bulls could pony up the dough if they want, with a spare DP spot to boot. NYCFC probably could too, but they won’t play for a while, so if Kljestan wants to get out during this European offseason that’s not an option, of course the same goes for Miami. There’s a few plays open to Kljestan, if he wants to go, but I don’t think California is one of them. Of course, it could just be a negotiating ploy by his manager; LA is the big team that usually comes up when a European player is trying to improve their market value.

He’d do pretty good next to Jeff Larentowicz in Chicago, too.

Kljestan is exactly the type of player the Earthquakes need. They have terrible central midfielders. But it wont happen as they are one of the least profitable teams in the MLS and just signed their first DP in Wondo a year ago. I dont see Kljestan going to any West Coast teams.
