With 28 goals in 33 games for City this season, Argentine striker Segrio Aguero has been red-hot whenever he has played.
The only problem is, he’s been out for far too long.
Two separate injuries meant Aguero missed over two pivotal months of the campaign (the whole of February and mid-December to mid-January) and then on just his second start since returning to the lineup, against Everton on May 3, Aguero injured himself whilst scoring (of course) and hasn’t played since.
However good news emanated from Manuel Pellegrini’s pre-match press conference on Friday, as City’s boss revealed he has a fully-fit squad to choose from as City only need a draw in their final game of the season against West Ham (Watch live on NBC, 10 a.m. ET and online via NBC Sports Live Extra) to win the Premier League title on Sunday.
With Aguero’s heroics the focal point of City’s incredible title victory two years ago, the 25-year-old scoring the title-winning goal in the Citizens’ dramatic 3-2 stoppage-time win over Queens Park Rangers, will Pellegrini hand Aguero a start to lead his side to another PL title?
His predatory instincts tore the Hammers apart earlier in the season as Aguero scored twice in City’s 3-1 win at Upton Park back in October. More than likely, especially with the World Cup around the corner and City only needing a point at home, Aguero will be on the bench and brought on as and when he is needed. Edin Dzeko has led the line superbly in Aguero’s absence and has banged in five goals in his last three games to put City on the brink of their second PL title in three seasons.
In the nicest way possible Pellegrini, and City’s fans, will not want to see Aguero on the pitch this Sunday as that will mean the Citizens are struggling to get over the line. A late cameo to seal the title is the most likely outcome as City’s sizzling attacker is back fit and ready to help push their title charge over the line.
