Italy’s powerful unit for World Cup 2014 in Brazil will be without Sunderland’s Emanuele Giaccherini, Liverpool’s Fabio Borini, Juventus’ Dani Osvaldo and Zenit’s Domenico Criscito on a heavily-Serie A provisional roster.

In fact, the only three players not playing for an Italian club all play for French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain, with Thiago Motta, Marco Verratti and Salvatore Sirigu on the squad.

Ciro Immobile and Mattia Destro make the 30-man unit after tremendous Serie A campaigns.

Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus), Mattia Perin (Genoa), Salvatore Sirigu (Paris Saint-Germain), * Mirante (Parma)

Defenders: Ignazio Abate (Milan), Andrea Barzagli (Juventus), Leonard Bonucci (Juventus), Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus), Matteo Darmian (Turin), Mattia De Sciglio (Milan), Christian Maggio (Napoli), Gabriel Paletta (Parma), Manuel Pasqual (Fiorentina), Andrea Ranocchia (Inter Milan)

Midfielders: Alberto Aquilani (Fiorentina), Antonio Candreva (Lazio), Daniele De Rossi (Roma), Claudio Marchisio (Juventus), Ricardo Montolivo (Milan), Thiago Motta (Paris Saint-Germain), Marco Parolo (Parma), Andrea Pirlo (Juventus), Romulo (Verona), Marco Verratti (Paris Saint-Germain)

Forwards: Mario Balotelli (Milan), Antonio Cassano (Parma), Alessio Cerci (Turin), Mattia Destro (Rome), Ciro Immobile (Turin), Lorenzo Insigne (Naples), Giuseppe Rossi (Fiorentina)

*fourth goalkeeper in case of emergency/injury.

Goes to show you that the death of Serie A has been greatly exaggerated, those 2 epl players are greatly overrated because the EPL is greatly overrated but that’s besides the point. PSG is basically made up of former Serie A all stars so no surprise there.

Really? Serie A is better than the BPL? How many Serie A clubs made it past the group stage of the Champions League? I count one, and the only reason the made it is because of a gift PK Balotelli was given at Ajax. The Serie A is still a distant third behind England and Spain when it comes to competetive club leagues. The difference is, England’s best players aren’t English, where as the majority of Italy’s best players are Italian……save for Tevez, Pogba, Vidal and a few others
