Already having confirmed he will miss the World Cup mini-camp due to a nagging knee issue, Danny Williams has decided to take care of the injury under the knife.

Local media is reporting the Reading defensive midfielder will have surgery on the knee injury he suffered during international duty in the friendly against Ukraine earlier this calendar year.

It will be the second time this injury requires operating on, as Williams (pictured, right) had minor surgery on it back in March soon after he sustained it.

Williams referred to the injury as “so frustrating” and said it hurt to miss out on his club’s matches down the stretch as they fought for – and narrowly missed out on – the Championship promotion playoffs.

“I tried my best to help us get promoted, but I couldn’t do much because of my knee,” Williams said. “The first thing I must do is get that straight because it’s important to be healthy. Then I will recover over the summer, get our minds straight again and try and have another good season.”

His first season in English soccer led to 30 Championship appearances and three goals, all of which came in 2014.

The report also interestingly mentions the 25-year-old has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs, and that Reading owner John Madjeski would be tempted by most offers from up above, given his wealth has plummeted and is looking to liquidate his assets.

Despite the links, when asked, Williams was steadfast in his ties to Reading. “Everyone wants to play in the Premier League but I didn’t sign a four-year contract with Reading for no reason. I will just focus now on recovering and try my best to help the team go up next season.”

Williams will be heading into the second year of that four-year deal next season.

Too bad he wasn’t called up to the US for the World Cup. He’s a helluva great player.
