Wednesday’s friendlies ended in injury for England’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and the Netherland’s Robin van Persie.
Oxlade-Chamberlain was enjoying a brilliant match against Ecuador in Miami when Carlos Gruezo kicked the bottom of his right foot and before landing on the back of the Arsenal midfielder’s leg. The tackle sent Oxlade-Chamberlain into obvious pain and he was immediately taken off the pitch, limping off under his own power.
Roy Hodgson noted that Jack Wilshere and Luke Shaw had suffered cramps during the 2-2 draw but that “Oxlade-Chamberlain is the one that bothers me. His knee buckled under the the challenge as the player turned into him,” Hodgson said. “He’ll have a scan tomorrow, I’d imagine. When we’ve had the scan, we’ll know more.”
Van Persie started the 2-0 victory over Wales but was removed at half-time in Amsterdam after looking balky.
It was unclear exactly what was bothering van Persie but the injury is not believed to be serious and the striker should recover in time for the team’s opening match against Spain on June 13th.
