France complains to FIFA about drone flying above training

FIFA is looking into a possible training intrusion after French players and staff noticed a drone flying above their training at the team’s base in Ribeirão Preto.

Before departing for Porto Alegre, where they will play Honduras later today, Didier Dechamps brought up the matter with FIFA, and they are investigating the incident.

Usually used for military spying, versatile drones are becoming across more and more disciplines.  Amazon.com is looking to use drones in a revolutionary new delivery system, and a drone was hacked and used to attack a runner in a triathalon in Australia back in April.

“Apparently drones are used more and more,” said Deschamps, who captained the side to their only World Cup triumph in 1998. “We don’t want intrusion into our privacy. It’s hard to fight. It’s not up to me — FIFA handles this and has been carrying out an inquiry.” FIFA is yet to comment on the matter.

Deschamps was in a touchy mood during his presser according to journalists, refusing to wear his headphones to hear the translator, and becoming upset when asked to compare this incident to the one four years ago that saw players revolt against staff.
