At halftime: Stalemate central as Italy, Costa Rica are going through – FOLLOW LIVE

It is safe to say both finales in Group D are slow-burners, as Italy vs. Uruguay and Costa Rica vs. England has yet to yield a goal.

The Italians are shutting up shop against Uruguay, while England are pinning Costa Rica back.

Here is an update on both games at half time, as it stands Costa Rica will win the group and Italy will go through as runners up on goal difference.

11th minute: Pirlo’s dipping free kick from distance is tipped over by Muslera

22nd minute: Balotelli booked for a clumsy high challenge, will miss the last 16 match if Italy make it

32nd minute: Suarez is played in but Buffon smothers his shot, then makes a double save from Lodeiro.

Questions for the second half:

Can Cavani and Suarez open up Italy’s defense? How will Uruguay get in behind Italy’s defense? Italy look dangerous on the counter-attack but will Balotelli lost the plot and get sent off?

12th minute: Daniel Sturridge turns, then curls a superb effort just wide of the post.

17th minute; Sturridge again tries his luck from distance… this time his lob starts wide and stays wide.

22nd minute: Borges steps up and curls a great free kick towards the top corner but Foster tips it onto the crossbar.

35th minute: Sturridge heads over from close range, as England continue to push.

Questions for the second half:

England’s youngsters will continue to press but can they show more quality in the final third? Should Costa Rica go all-out attack for the win that will see them top the group?
