Juventus act quick, hire Massimiliano Allegri to replace Conte as manager

Less than 24 hours after Juventus legend Antonio Conte stepped down as manger of the Turin club, La Vecchia Signora have a new man at the helm.

Massimiliano Allegri.

On Wednesday the Italian champions announced the former AC Milan manager is now in charge, after he had spent over three-and-a-half years in charge of the Milan club.

Allegri won the Serie A title in his debut season at the San Siro, back in 2010-2011, however things turned sour earlier this year and Allegri was given his marching orders in January 2014.

Speaking about his appointment, Allegri said: “It is an honor for me, I’m very happy and I know what a big job coaching Juventus is.”

Juventus have won three-straight Italian titles and possess a squad brimming with talent. However it is thought that Conte was stopped from spending substantial amounts on players this summer, as he lined up deals for the likes of Alexis Sanchez but saw them fall through. Conte, alongside Roberto Mancini, is now a frontrunner to become the new manager of the Italian national team.

After Conte’s shock departure on Tuesday, when he left the club by mutual consent after stating that it “may be more difficult to keep winning with Juventus,” the club have acted quickly to bring in a stable replacement who can steady the ship.

It seems like a smart move from Juve, however Allegri may have some work to do with Andrea Pirlo. Juventus’ new manager let the 35-year-old playmaker leave Milan in 2011 after stating he wanted a more physical player in front of the back four. However Allegri has already spoke glowingly of Pirlo and his qualities, so there doesn’t seem to be any issues there.

Can Allegri keep Juve on track and help them compete for titles not only domestically but in Europe?

That will be his goal, as well as keeping hold of key players such as Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal who are linked with big money moves away from Juventus this summer.
