The 2014 World Cup champions, 2013 Champions League winners and four-time Formula One drivers’ champions all have one thing in common: they’re German.
And so we get today’s post from MotorSportsTalk’s Luke Smith on what it all means. It’s an interesting read from our peers down the web dial.
Oddly enough, the most intriguing part comes from the comments of a Brazilian driver, one who watched as the German national team dominated his host nation in the World Cup semifinal.
Brazilian driver Felipe Massa made a quick getaway from testing last week so he could see the match against Germany. Naturally, our first question in jest to him was “have you recovered from the result?”. He laughed and smiled, but then went on to make some very interesting points about Germany’s recent success both on the track and on the soccer pitch.
“If you see how Germany rests and how Germany is preparing everything on the sport, about Formula 1, about the World Cup, about the other categories,” he began. “It’s the country that has the most drivers racing. It’s the country that has more championships as well.
“In the football as well, the job they did was brilliant, amazing, the preparation, the way they worked.”
Want a further relationship? FIFA has now come after a driver, Nico Rosberg, who had the audacity to put the World Cup trophy on his helmet.
Rosberg’s tribute carries a bit more symbolism than you’d think. He’s in first place in the World Drivers’ Championship standings… and he’s not the four-time reigning champ. That’s Sebastian Vettel, who is currently in sixth. Vettel is one ahead of Nico Hulkenberg. Those three Germans make up almost half of the Top Seven.
What does it all mean? Read Luke Smith’s article. Perhaps there’s no correlation, or perhaps there is something much bigger in play. Germany could have a recipe for strength, even victory.
