Report: Bayern Munich confirms Julian Green on first team for US trip

Folks on either side of the country may get a chance to see Julian Green in his Bayern Munich red this summer, as confirmed that the 19-year-old USMNT player will be with the German giants’ first team for preseason in the United States.

We noted late last week that Green was listed as a Bayern first teamer on their web site, but the confirmation makes it almost a foregone conclusion that the teenager will see the field on July 31 in New Jersey against CD Guadalajara and Aug. 6 in Oregon against the MLS All-Stars.

And perhaps Green’s World Cup goal helped cement his place on the trip, as Bayern did not have a photo on file for the first team part of the web site (either that, or Green is operating in disguise):

    Great Job by bayern

Judging by his first team photo, he looks like he’ll be ready!

Of course he’s on this tour. He’ll sell tickets and increase viewership in the US market. I suddenly became interested in watching these two matches. See how that works?

I’d be interested in seeing the starting 11 for Bayern for this game. The Bundesliga starts Aug 22. The 7 German WC players who play for Bayern may not even be there as most of them will still be on holiday or preparing for the Bundesliga. This team may even play without their captain.

    Klinsmann just got a semi.

The only reason JG is on this tour is because Bayern Munich is resting the the 10-12 first-teamers that saw significant WC action. Once those guys are back it’s back to the fourth division for JG!!!!

Great News. I hope he is in great form

Win-Win for Bayern. U.S. fans see an american playing for Bayern, and all of sudden Bayern has tapped into the huge U.S. market. Also, it’s a chance for Bayern Munich to give playing time to one of their most promising youth players.

I’d say this was good marketing by Bayern considering his media attention in the US, but it should be pointed out they brought him with the first team during last years preseason too. Hopefully he can get some good minutes, and make an impression.

Seems there’s a lot of grey area with Julian Green.
