Terrence Boyd will spend the next 10 weeks, at least, on the treatment table.

The U.S. national team and RB Leipzig striker confirmed via Twitter that he has “partially torn his ACL” just a few weeks into his career with Leipzig.

According to German newspaper Bild, the injury came in Leipzig’s friendly against Premier League side QPR over the weekend. Boyd collided with an opponent towards the end of the match and the German-American now faces an extended spell on the sidelines.

Boyd, 23, did not make the U.S. squad for the World Cup this summer but is one of the USA”s hottest forward prospects ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The former Rapid Vienna forward scored 20 goals in 38 games last season before moving to Leipzig this summer and at times looked like a lock to be in Jurgen Klinsmann’s U.S. squad in Brazil. However the form of Aron Johannsson and Chris Wondolowski saw Boyd miss out. Just.

U.S. forward Johannsson is also missing through injury until August so Klinsmann may have a small choice of strikers to choose from for the USA’s September friendlies. Here is the Tweet from Boyd, who states that he is looking forward to getting back on the pitch for Leipzig in Austria and the U.S. national team.

Get well soon, Terrence.
