We heard plenty of noise surrounding USMNT defender Matt Besler and the interest he garnered across England and beyond, and nothing came of it as Besler stayed with Kansas City.
We may yet go through that again with Besler’s US center-back partner Geoff Cameron.
Cameron already belongs to a Premier League club in Stoke City, but Mark Hughes has used him primarily as a right-back.
Reports suggest Cameron much prefers a central role – whether in defense or midfield – after successfully roaming that position in the World Cup.
Multiple reports from England suggest Hull City is prepared to hand Cameron a CB spot, with Steve Bruce having already swung and missed on Carl Jenkinson, Michael Dawson, and Brede Hangeland.
Stoke is able to sell, considering they have new signing Phil Bardsley to play right-back, and there is enough central depth between Ryan Shawcross, Robert Huth, and Marc Wilson.
But Hull is far from the only club interested. Just like we saw with Besler, a host of clubs are reportedly in for the defender, and Sunderland, Swansea, West Brom, and Southampton all dotted across various reports.
Southampton would make a lot of sense, given they lost both Callum Chambers and Dejan Lovren and have plenty of money to spend.
In addition to English clubs, the Stoke Sentinel reports that German clubs Schalke and Eintracht Frankfurt have both expressed interest. All in all, most reports tab nine teams interested, with the Sentinal spreading it at five from England and four from Germany.
Cameron cost Stoke about $3.4 million, coming from Houston Dynamo two seasons ago and cementing himself in a Premier League starting lineup relatively quickly and emphatically. He has two years left on his contract, a timeframe that often begins transfer thoughts dancing in players’ heads.
