AFC Fiorentina have announced that midfielder Giuseppe Rossi will have even more knee surgery.
The new surgery for Rossi is an arthroscopic one – the same “keyhole” procedure that Luis Suarez underwent prior to the World Cup.
According to the club’s release, Rossi had multiple opinions before electing to have surgery, including that of a doctor in Veil, Colorado as well as a visit to London to see Dr. Andrew Williams.
Rossi, a New Jersey-born Italian international, has seen his career horribly blighted by knee injuries, including a pair of ACL tears during his professional time in Italy.
This procedure will be more diagnostic than anything, so it is unclear how much time Rossi will miss at this moment. Suarez missed about a month from his procedure that was used to clean up MCL damage.
The 27-year-old passing specialist has played in just 31 league matches over the last three seasons between Fiorentina and former club Villareal.
He first tore his right ACL playing for Villareal in October of 2011, and retore it in training the following April. He was the leading scorer in Serie A before he suffered damage to his MCL this past January, which caused him to feature little in the run-up to the 2014 World Cup. He returned to fitness in time to make the tournament, but it wasn’t enough to convince then-Italy boss Cesare Prandelli to select him.
