Julian Green completes loan move to Hamburg

Bayern Munich have announced on their official website that 19-year-old Julian Green has headed to Hamburg on a season-long loan.

The Tampa-born youngster has made the bench for Bayern early this season, but it was always likely he would see much more playing time at another club temporarily than with the stacked Bayern first-team.

The news is fantastic for both Green and US fans who wish to see more of their young product.

He can learn from team captain and fellow winger Rafael van der Vaart, and he moves to a squad that just avoided relegation last season and is looking to bring in new players to feature heavily.

Now that the club has sold central midfielders Hakan Calhanoglou and Milan Badelj, van der Vaart will likely take up a much more central role leaving space on the wing.

Thus, Green will likely compete for playing time with the likes of Nicolai Müller, Ivo Ilicevic, and even possibly Lewis Holtby should Spurs end up selling the German back to his home country, which is somewhat likely.

However, if Hamburg see him as more of a out-and-out striker – like he often played for the Bayern youth side – he would be competing with Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Latvian Artjoms Rudnevs for time.

Bundesliga time will be invaluable for Green who has yet to make a Bundesliga appearance.
