Paris Saint-Germain winger Marco Verratti, who has been linked with the likes of Real Madrid in the last few days, is set to sign a new contract with his current club, according to Italian media outlet Il Centro.
The 21-year-old Italian was present at the World Cup this past summer with the Italian team that exited in the group stage, and was one of their few bright spots.
Verratti moved from his hometown club of Pescara to PSG two summers ago, and has made 85 appearances with the French club since. He has yet to score a goal for them, but the midfielder has registered 13 direct assists and is known for his passing and creativity. Through PSG’s first four matches of the Ligue 1 season, he has a 94% pass completion rate and two assists.
According to the Il Centro report, Verratti will complete his extension in “the next few days” and should fend off interest from Madrid as well as Bayern Munich and Monaco.
The report says he currently earns around $3 million a year, but the new deal would see him earn $26 million over the next five years in Paris.
